Koniakow, a 200 year old traditional lace making town in Southern Poland, known for its intricate handmade lace tablecloths, doilies, and alter ornaments that reside in some of the most beautiful cathedrals throughout the world. Lace making in Koniakow is a tradition that is passed down from one generation of women to another and has been the back bone revenue source for this small town until people stopped ordering traditional lace products. Orders were low and the women hand time on their hands to play around with other lace alternatives. Word started to spread that the women were making g-strings and thongs and the town was knee-deep in divide and controversy over this radical switch from the traditional. In 2003, emerging designers Malgorzata Stanaszek and her sister Teresa Matuszna launched Koni-art, a lace lingerie producing company to capitalize on the controversial buzz around racy g-strings and seize the revenue opportunities that lie ahead. Momentum from word of mouth, a little marketing and the power of the internet helped to propel their endeavor by instantly bringing a sexy solution to the visual panty line (VPL) issue that so many women all over the world deal with on a daily basis.Their line offerings expanded to handmade lace camisoles, tees, tops, purses and more. Ironically, the influx of interest in the sexy underwear has also renewed interest in their traditional merchandise.
